This is a lovely antique purple toile valance! I can't find documentation of this antique French toile, but my years of experience tell me it's most likely either a toile de Normandy or a toile de Nantes. It's 100% hand stitched and hand quilted ~ This textile would have been part of a large bedding set. Lovely, finely drawn pattern! This textile is a long quilted valance with a linen homespun backing! The color is a gorgeous purple tone; it would have been achieved by using an iron mordant and then a madder bath. There are charming scenes incorporated into this toile. Excellent for display, for deconstructing for various sewing projects, for collectors, or would be wonderful design inspiration!

MEASUREMENTS: This lovely textile measures approximately 70 inches wide by approximately 17 inches at the deepest point of the scallop

CONDITION: This piece has been left in as found, not freshly laundered condition for collectors but can be hand washed and hung to dry. There are many small threadbare placed and a small hole in this piece; the cotton batting is visible in places. There are some loose threads along the edge seams and a few tiny marks on both the front and back. The signs of time and use present on this textile add to its charm! These imperfections are perfect for some projects, and not right for others! This textile is not perfect, but it’s perfect for someone with creative hands who doesn’t mind working around the flaws inherent in antique textiles!
