Margaret Hunter Shop - "Milliner"

The word "milliner" is derived from "Milaner", meaning a person who came from or importe goods from Milan, Italy.  Thus a milliner in colonial days was an importer, as well as, a designer.  Trained in England, Margaret came to Virginia to join her sister Jane in the millinery business in 1767.  Margaret was known to carry in her shop Ladies Hats, Bonnets, Cloaks, black love nibands, sleeve knots and etc.  This small brick storehouse, done in Flemish brick has been restored to its eighteenth century appearance.
