First Generation Three Rivers Stadium Astro Turf 3' x 4' Stadium. The items that we are selling are pieces that were cut from the Astro Turf that was in Three Rivers Stadium from 1983 until after the Colts vs. Steelers football game on January 14th 1996. We have gone through extensive research in documentation, using the Right to Know laws of Pennsylvania, Associated Press articles from 1995, personal interviews with truck drivers who moved the turf, people who observed the rolls of Turf in storage, months of correspondence with people from Pittsburgh who were part of upkeep of Three Rivers at that time. Rather than a COA, we have created a legal, notarized, "Chain of Custody" that follows the Turf from leaving the Stadium to our home near Sligo, Pa.
All pieces are cut to approximately 3' by 4'. The pieces are amazing in quality and color. All pieces will be of outstanding quality. Some will have yardage lines still visible. The black rubber backing was removed when the turf was put into rolls and removed from Three Rivers. We have donated some long lengths to community organizations. One of the pictures shows the batting cage of the Southern Clarion County little league in Rimersburg, Pa. If you are a true Steeler fan, how about using that 3' x 4' piece of Three Rivers as a table topper during games as the Pirates and Steelers win their next World Championship. Now included with your purchase will be a copy of the Pro Football Hall of Fame letter, describing the pieces that we donated to the Hall. Remember, Three Rivers Stadium is gone. As far as we know, this turf is all that is available to purchase.
I do have some pieces left with the yardage marker still on the turf. On the back of the piece, I indicate just where that piece came from on the field. Once these pieces are gone, the history is complete.
