Here is a very rare E. & H.T. Anthony & Co. Model Stereo Box. It is a 5x8 plate camera made for stereo work and was only made in this size. I have not been able to find another picture of one on the internet. I could only find a line drawing from an 1883 copy of an Anthony catalog I found online and have included a picture of it so you can see what they say about it. The camera has many unique features only found on this model which include a very short base under the rear standard with the rear standard brass tightening lever located under the ground glass frame rather then disposed on a protruding triangle of wood that is found on most other similar Anthony cameras. The camera is notched both in the front standard and rear standard to receive a stereo septum but no septum is present. This type of construction does not lend itself to strength and the camera is a bit rickety in design. The camera has many issues including repairs to the rear folding track and some breakage on the inner track of the front standard which can not be seen in the photos. The tightening knob which allows the front rise and fall does not tighten. The bolt that holds the folding track to the front bed is not original. The wood shows wear in the finish. The brass lens looks early and is unmarked. It is a landscape lens with washer stops but no washer stops are included. It does form a nice image on the ground glass. The lensboard looks to be original and even though it looks to be of one piece construction it is actually a early 3 ply type of plywood used by Anthony for many of their early lensboards. The camera is sold as a display piece only and is true historic item and I doubt there are many left at all due to its fragility. The camera makes an excellent display piece.
