Background: Joan Spear, 1925 - 2019

Cornell Graduate Spear accompanied her husband on US Foreign Service assignments overseas, including tours in Philippines, Thailand, Bahamas, and Thailand. Spear taught Linguistics at Universities and chaired Dept of Foreign Languages at Bangkok International School, 1963-’67. Next Spear taught Bahamian students (where this painting likely was completed). Later, in Viet Nam, 1973, Spear helped staff of Consulate General evacuate US Citizens from Nha Trang, April, 1975.
