A very attractive early pair of maps of Rhodes on a single sheet as published. Het Eylant Rhodus and Platte Gront der Stadt Rhodus, by Olfert Dapper, from Naukeurige Beschryving der Eilanden in de Archipel der Middelantsche Zee, published 1688.

Originally uncoloured these maps have been expertly hand colored.

The sheet features two striking views of Rhodes. At top is a bird's-eye view of the island with the north oriented to the right by a small compass rose. Numerous ships fill the harbors and surrounding waters. Below is a plan of the city of Rhodes that includes fine detail of its fortifications.

Condition: A nice impression on a sheet with a coat of arms watermark with unsmudged plate marks clearly visible, especially to the top map. Very sympathetic colour to both. There is minor show-through of tape stains along the top edge and in the upper image at right, as well as a couple archivally repaired tears and a damp stain in the blank lower right margin.

The maps are stored flat in PP sleeve and may be sent flat with board protection or rolled for postage in a tube.
