Edward Brandus [1857 ? ] born in France he was a prominent art dealer who first came to America in 1880 and established the Edward Brandus & Company, a publishing house for French books. In 1894, he opened his first Exhibition Gallery in New York, and through his many acquaintances in France was able to acquire pieces of European art to sell to the New York area. His business became very successful, and he started selling art in his own auctions which began in 1896 and ran continuously until 1914. He briefly retuned to France to convalesce following an accident but returned and opened a new location on Fifth Ave in Manhattan. An article in the New York Times dated June 18, 1911, stated ''Brandus specialized in European paintings executed by the old masters as well as modern artists''. Listed for auction is a [ALS] autograph letter signed by Edward Brandus. The letter is untranslated, in French, dated New York Noel 1925 and is signed ''Edward Brandus'' in black fountain pen. The letter measures 7.25 x 9.25 inches and is in fine condition.
