DESCRIPTION:
This listing is for a  spectacular and very rare specimen of saussurite, shaped into a polished tower from the famous and mystical Ural mountains in Russia. We are lucky to have a good contact close to the Ural mountains and we have a very limited supply of genuine rare green and white saussurite . This tower is obviously the green & white (malachite stained) variety. The tower is polished to a glass like mirror finish and is just fabulous - you won't be disappointed !!  We have photographed the tower next to a yellow cube which is 1cm x 1cm to give you an idea of how large this amazing tower is - You'll love it !!

A LITTLE INFORMATION ABOUT SAUSSURITE:
Saussurite is the name given to a rare pseudomorph (meaning one mineral replaced another; a false form) feldspar that commonly contains a group of minerals. Some of these being Zoisite, Epidote, Scapolite, Albite, and other sodium rich silicates. It is only found crystallized in the form of masses, making this a highly sought after stone for master craftsmen and sculptors. Saussurite was first discovered in Mount Blanc some time in between 1760-1778 by Horace Benedict de Saussure (a famed Genevan geologist and mountaineer). It is believed that he originally thought this mineral was actually a variety of Jade. That belief was shared from the time of his death in 1799 all the way up until 1806. That is when Nicolas Theodore de Saussure (his son) correctly identified this mineral as a completely new feldspar, thus naming it in honour of his late father. Since then, this mineral has been found in Australia, China, India, and Russia.
