Sonja Henie, was a Norwegian figure skater and Hollywood film star.  She won more Olympic and World titles than any other ladies' figure skater in the history of the sport (1927-1936) winning 10 world championships in a row.

She also was the first ladies figure skater to adopt a short skirt, white skating boots, and make use of dance choreography in her routines.   Her innovative skating techniques and glamourous demeanor transformed the sport permanently and confirmed its acceptance as a legitimate sport in the Winter Olympics.

Much in demand as a performer at figure skating exhibitions in both Europe and North America. Henie became so popular with the public that police had to be called out for crowd control at many of her performances.  She was a favorite with Detroit audiences and a stop at the Motor City's Olympia Stadium was on her tour schedule for several years.

This original/authentic souvenir program is from Henie's 1949 exhibition tour called "Hollywood Ice Review" which stopped in Detroit for a several week run in late winter/early spring of that year.  This large, 9"x12" fully-illustrated program booklet runs 16 pages and features a number of photos of Henie, other skaters in the company, and information about the tour.

While the interior of booklet is printed on glossy magazine stock, the outside covers are fashioned from a stone-colored suede-textured stock with an embossed and gold-leafed silhouette of Henie striking a skating pose along with a facsimile of her signature.

Protecting the program cover is another outer cover made from translucent glassine upon which the cost of the souvenir program (50 cents) has been printed in the lower right.  (See pix.)

Program is in excellent vintage condition INCLUDING the glassine over-cover which usually is missing or damaged on these books.  No rips, tears stains.  Binding is tight and all pages intact.

Great addition to any collection whether you're into ladies sports, figure skating, Olympia Stadium, Detroit or 1930s-1940s Hollywood memorabilia.
