Triumph of Death
Artist: Luigi Russolo
Circa: 1908
Before becoming a pioneer of Futurist sound art, Luigi Russolo created Symbolist and proto-Futurist etchings. In Triumph of Death, spectral rays of light break through a stormed sky, illuminating human figures lying in shadow. The image conveys both dread and transcendence, bridging Symbolist allegory with the Futurist obsession for unseen energies and transformative power. This etching marks Russolo’s transition into the radical vision that would later define Italian Futurism.
