Gangbangin is approached in a manner meaningful to youth, parents, educators, counselors, community leaders, clergy and law enforcement agents. Most US gangs are fluid. As a result, gangs are in a continuous state of change, due in large part to three factors: turnover and fluctuation, community pressures and law enforcement surveillance and prosecution. Gang research requires, at minimum, direct contact with bangas, in the author's opinion, to realize the most productive and valid research. Since his early youth the author has "hung with" bangas in the street, their homes, and in the "joint." The author elaborates on many gans, including the Crips, Bloods, Folks Nation and People Nation.
