About these stamps:  These beautiful 18-cent Space Achievement  stamps were released May 21, 1981, at Kennedy Space Center, Florida. Printed in a block of eight, these stamps highlighted  the first flight of the space shuttle and the culmination of twenty years of manned space flight. Designed by Robert T. McCall, this commemorative set  includes  the historical moon walk, Columbia space shuttle in flight, Skylab, Pioneer 11, and telescope.  Columbia, the first space shuttle, is forever remembered for its tragic demise in 2003.

A bit more history: The United States Post Office issued its first stamp on July 1, 1847. Since that time, over 5000 stamps have been released. Each stamp is given its own identification number called a Scott Number. These stamps has been designated as Scott Number 1919a.
