From 1998 - 2000, the US Postal Service released a 10 sheet series called "Celebrate the Century. This was a limited-edition set of commemorative stamps highlighting the most significant people, events, and accomplishments of the 20th century. A page was created for each decade, with the final sheet, the 1990's, issued on January 12, 2000.
This 32c stamp was issued to commemorate the Art Deco Style of the 1920's. The Chrysler Building is considered by many to be one of the finest buildings in New York City and is a classic example of Art Deco architecture. Currently the fourth tallest building in New York, it is still the tallest brick building in the world. It served as the headquarters for the Chrysler Corporation from 1930 until the mid 1950's, although it was never owned by the automobile company. Walter Chrysler paid for the building himself, so that he could bequeath it to his children.
It is shown in a 4 by 4 inch wood frame and would be perfect for that 60's person. Please indicate what color you prefer: walnut or black. If no color is indicated, walnut will be sent.
A bit more history: The United States Post Office issued its first stamp on July 1, 1847. Since that time, over 5000 stamps have been released. Each stamp is given its own identification number called a Scott Number. This stamp has been designated as Scott Number 3184j.
