The facing heaven pepper (Chinese
name: 朝天椒 cháo tian jiao, also known as 指天椒zhǐtian jio meaning "skyward-pointing
chili pepper"), is a type of cone pepper, a group of cone-shaped,
medium-hot chili peppers within the species Capsicum annuum. The species is
native to Central America. However, it has been widely used for cooking Chinese
Szechuan Sichuan cuisine. Especially dried facing heaven chilies are popular
spices in China. It is one of the most famous chili peppers used in Sichuan
cuisine.
