USMC 6th Marines 1st Battalion WWI Patch — USMC Embroidered Patch

1st Battalion, 6th Marines — The Indianhead Division

This patch carries the Indianhead insignia as worn by 1st Battalion, 6th Marines during World War I. When 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines was battered by nearly 400 casualties in the initial assault on Belleau Wood, it was 1st Battalion that stepped forward to continue the attack into the teeth of German defenses.

1st Battalion, 6th Marines entered the crucible of Belleau Wood as the relief force after the devastating casualties of June 6, 1918. Taking over positions from the shattered 3rd Battalion, 1/6 continued pressing the attack into the dense forest, fighting German defenders in close quarters among shattered trees and rocky terrain. The battalion fought through the remaining days of the Belleau Wood battle and continued with the regiment through every subsequent engagement — Soissons, Blanc Mont, and the Meuse-Argonne Offensive — helping to break the German Army's will to fight.

Perfect For: 1/6 Marines veterans across all eras, Belleau Wood historians, 6th Marines heritage collectors, and descendants of the Marines who fought with the 4th Brigade.

Into the breach — 1st Battalion, 6th Marines.
