CIVIL WAR Judge J. W. Menzies Kentucky Unionist Democratic Convention 1864. John William Menzies career as a civil servant was very long and wide from small time attorney to several elected positions to a state and federal House of Representatives eventually landing as a judge.
Mr. Menzies was born in Bryan Station Kentucky in 1819.
Photographs of Judge Menzies seem to be very rare as we were not able to find any others with an extensive internet search.
A grandchild has written on the paper backing, "Judge John W. Menzies (grandmother's father) (Grandmother's mother was Caroline Butler, the first wife of John Menzies)" I have researched his family tree and I think Caroline Butler was the sister of his first wife, Elizabeth Jane Butler.
