Intro

I've always enjoyed blues music- its simplicity and its challenges, the way it has evolved over the last hundred years to inspire the many folk, rock, funk and fusion players along the way, and also its relevance to the developement of jazz.

My choice is based on musicians who have inspired me and whose music I enjoy listening to.

Each transcription is preceded by a biographical introduction to the musician whose work is featured. I hope you find these life-stories an interesting introduction to each artist. The introductions also help to bring some colour and relief to the endless (but inspiring) black dots!

I've used Wikipedia whose site often offers a more expanded explanation of the artist, his life story and his contribution to jazz.

As you've noticed, this book is split into two sections:

Book 1 contains guitarists who were active up to 1940 though some continued thereafter. It also looks at guitarists who were busy from 1940 to 1980 though some began to attract attention before 1940 while others continued post 1980.

Book 2 looks at guitarists from 1980 onwards. See the list on page 5

Book 3 checks out guitarists who were and are now more involved with jazz and its various evolving/ developmental expressions.

I hope you enjoy my selection of guitar transcriptions.
