DESCRIPTION

The first thus edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with pictorial gilt to the front board.

11 tipped-in colour plates, including the frontispiece, and further illustrations in the text, by Charles Folkard (1878-1963), a prolific illustrator of children’s books who also created the influential strip cartoon, ‘Teddy Tail’.

This poem about an audacious jackdaw who steals the Cardinal's ring, was written by Richard Harris Barham (1788-1845) under his pseudonym Thomas Ingoldsby. He was best known as the author of The Ingoldsby Legends.


CONDITION

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally with some wear to the extremities and the boards and a damp stain to the corner. Pictorial gilt to the front board is still bright. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Colour plates are in excellent condition.
