Forest Silas Petersen [1922 1990] was a United States Navy aviator, Vice Admiral, test pilot and veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. In 1958, he was assigned as a Research Pilot in the X-15 Program at the Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards Air Force Base. Peterson was one of only 12 pilots to fly the X-15, he completed five flights and achieved a speed of 3,600 MPH [Mach 5.3] and an altitude of 102,000 feet. Listed for auction is a [TLS] typed letter signed by Forrest Silas Peterson. The letter is typed on the letterhead of the USS Enterprise [CVAN-65] and dated July 21, 1965. The letter has interesting content, he comments on the X-15 Project and his past and current assignments and the autograph is signed ''F. S. Peterson'' in black pen. The letter measures 8.00 x 10.25 inches, it has some trivial creasing at the top otherwise it is in fine condition. The autograph is authentic, rare to obtain, and signed on a desirable format.
