An 18th century copper plate engraving of the ruins of Persepolis by George Sale, London, 1747. A panorama of the ruined city of Persepolis, with the river Araxis flowing from the distant mountains behind, printed over two sheets. The complex was built by Darius I in 518 BC. The piece is plate 2 from Universal History, from the earliest accounts to the present time. The overall dimensions are 16” x 12 ½”.
