Rare Vintage 1939 Lane Cedar Chest Girl Graduate Program Gift Altavista VA - No Key.

Measures approx 9” x 4 x 4”

These minature chests were part of an annual promotion that Lane did called the "Girl Graduate Program." These chests were sold to and branded with the name of a local furniture dealer.

The dealer and the Lane salesman would obtain the names and addresses of the senior High School girls who were graduating from high school.

Lane would mail out an invitation from the dealer inviting the girls to stop by the furniture store to pickup their free gift.

During the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, many girls never went to college and married shortly after high school graduation.

These small chests were a forerunner to the larger “hope chests” that would be purchased for storing supplies in anticipation of an upcoming wedding.

Please review the attached photos as they are part of the description.
