Antique 16th century hand colored map showing the City of Damascus.  “Damascus, Urbs Nobilissima ad Libanum Totius Syriae Metropolis,” from the work Civitates Orbis Terrarum, published in Cologne (1572-90).  Georg Braun (1541-1622, Canon of Cologne Cathedral) and Frans Hogenberg (1540-1590, engraver).  The bird’s eye view image shows monuments and localities within the city and is an important record of the 16th century metropolis.  The piece is professionally matted and framed and measures approximately 25 ½” x 22”.  A very rare and desirable piece ready to hang on the wall.
