DESCRIPTION

A beautifully illustrated, signed Limited Edition English translation of this mid seventeenth century novel by L'Abbe Prevost. The first edition thus.

Number 454 of 500 copies printed, and signed by the prominent British illustrator, John Austen, who was particularly recognised for the Art Deco influences present in his work.

Illustrated with twelve charming colour plates from Austen, and further vignette illustrations. Collated, complete.

A wonderful edition of the controversial tale of Chevalier des Grieux, and his lover, Manon Lescaut, a work initially banned in France upon publication.


CONDITION

In the publisher's original quarter vellum binding, with cloth covered boards. Light handling marks to back strip, otherwise, externally excellent. Spotting to fore edge of text block. Internally, firmly bound. Significant spotting and instances of foxing throughout.
