DESCRIPTION

First and only edition, very scarce. 

Illustrated with a frontispiece by Gertrude D. Hammond (1862-1952), the British painter and children's book illustrator.

This is a charming children's novella by Penelope Leslie which tells the tale of a brother and sister duo that go on holiday with their family. 

Contents include 'News', 'Packing Up', 'New Experiences', and 'Bombay'.

Written by Penelope Leslie, a children's author of novels such as 'Miss Barton's Bicycle', 'Troublesome Cousins', and 'Dorothy's Stepmother'. 

Prior owner's ink inscription to front endpaper, which reads 'All Saints' Sunday School, Piddletrenthide. Presented to Irend Hart Christmas, 1917. W. Taylor, Vicar.' 

Undated, so dated from identical copies held at the British Library, as well as the National Library of Scotland. 

Collated, complete.


CONDITION

In the publisher's original cloth binding, with pictorial boards. Externally, excellent, with minimal wear to extremities and just a few marks to boards. Very light wear to bands of joints. Light age-toning to endpapers. Prior owner's ink inscription to front end paper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout.
