DESCRIPTION

A second edition of this scarce work, the sequel to 'Vestiges of the Natural History of Creation'. This first appeared the year prior in 1845.

'Vestiges' united theories of stellar evolution with transmutation of species, going against theological trends of the day. Prince Albert allegedly read this work to Queen Victoria daily in 1845, and Abraham Lincoln was also impressed by it. Charles Darwin was an early reader, and himself suggested that the work paved the way for the publication of his 'On the Origin of Species'.

Written by Robert Chambers, best known for this work and as a publisher with his brother William Chambers.

Bound with ten pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear.

A scarce early copy of this influential work.

CONDITION

In a full cloth binding. Externally generally smart; a little faded to the edges and the spine, which is rather worn to the head. Bookseller's blind stamp to the front endpaper. Front hinge is a little strained, but binding is otherwise firm. Pages have the odd spot.

Overall Condition: Good
