DESCRIPTION

Written by Coenraad Jacob Temminck, a Dutch zoologist and the first director of the National Museum of Natural History in Leiden for nearly forty years. Many bats, mammals, birds and fish were named for him.

A scarce work.

From the library of Leonard Harrison Matthews, a British zoologist known for his work on marine mammals. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society and a prolific author.

Illustrated with thirteen plates depicting bats and monkeys, including numerous folding plates.


CONDITION

In the original paper wraps; lacking the rear wrap. Externally rather worn. Surviving wrap is discoloured and with a large amount of loss. Small inscription in pen to the verso of the front wrap. Binding has failed throughout and leaves are loose. Pages are age-toned, a little spotted and worn to the edges.
