OsmoLax is clinically proven to provide effective relief of consipation. It works to restore the natural bowel rhythm by using orally taken fluids to hydrate and soften the stool so it's easier to pass. OsmoLax generally produces a bowel movement in 1 to 3 days. OsmoLax is flavourless, sugar free and salt free, and contains no artificial flavours, colours or sweeters. With no salty taste, it can be mixed with any hot or cold drink. Osmolax (30 Adult Doses)

Directions

Use the enclosed scoop with 8.5g and 17g measures to measure your dose.
Add OsmoLax powder (see Dosage Instructions) to any beverage (hot or cold), such as water, juice, soft drinks, coffee or tea.
Stir until dissolved and then drink. If desired, the solution may be stored covered in the fridge.
Discard any solution that is not used within 6 hours.

  • Drink plenty of water. Increase fibre in the diet except in cases of medication-induced constipation (e.g. with codeine)
  • OsmoLax should be taken 2 hours before or after other medication
  • Use in children aged 4 years and over should not exceed 3 months, except under medical supervision

Dosage Instructions:

  • For adults and children over the age of 12 years: One level 17g measuring scoop mixed with 1 cup (approximately 240mL) of liquid once daily. This can be increased to a maximum of 2 doses of 17g daily, dependent on the severity of your constipation. For chronic constipation, the dose may be reduced to one 8.5g scoop mixed with ½ cup (approximately 120mL) of liquid daily, according to individual response.
  • For children aged 6 to 12 years: The usual starting dose is two level 8.5g measuring scoops (or one 17g scoop), mixed with 1 cup (approximately 240mL) of liquid once daily. The dose should be adjusted up or down as required to produce regular soft stools. The maximum dose should not exceed three 8.5g scoops (equivalent to 25.5g) daily.
  • For children aged 4 to 5 years: The usual starting dose is one level 8.5g measuring scoop, mixed with ½ cup (approximately 120mL) of liquid once daily. This can be increased to a maximum of two 8.5g scoops (equivalent to 17g) daily if required. OsmoLax is not recommended for children under 4 years of age.

Warnings

Do not use if you have

  • an obstruction in your intestine (gut)
  • a perforated gut wall megacolon
  • kidney damage
  • paralysis of the bowel
  • an allergy to marcrogols

Do not give to children under 4 years of age.

Before you take OsmoLax
Laxatives such as OsmoLax have the potential to affect the absorption of other medications. Monitoring the effects of your medications may be necessary when you commence or stop taking OsmoLax. Discuss this with your doctor or pharmacist before taking OsmoLax.

While using this product

  • Use of laxatives may cause a stomach ache or rumbles annd make you feel bloated or sick. It may also cause loose stools or diarrhoea. If this occurs stop taking OsmoLax until it clears.
  • If an overdose is taken or suspected, ring the Poisons Information Centre.
  • Symptoms of overdose may include diarrhoea or vomiting, which may result in excessive loss of fluid (water) and electrolytes (salts) from the body. Signs of excessive fluid and electrolyte loss may include weakness, breathlessness, extreme thirst with a headache, puffy ankles, confusion, or seizure.
  • Prolonged use of laxatives is undesirable and may lead to dependence.
  • If symptoms persist seek medical advice.

When using OsmoLax to treat children

  • Most children will occasionally experiennce constipation. Many will have a tedency to recurring mild constipation. This can usually be managed with healthy eating, regular exercise and toilet use, and occasionally use of a laxative if required.
  • A small proportion of children will pass stools less frequently than 3 times per week, with excessive straining and disccomfort or pain at these times. If your child has this more severe type of constipation, he or she requires medical assessment and a medically-supervised plan of treatment over 6 to 12 months. Treatment may require daily use of a product such as OsmoLx, which can help the stools of normal consistency and restore a normal pattern of passing stools.

Stop use and advise a doctor if you feel weak, breathless, very thirsty with a headache, have rectal bleeding or get puffy ankles.
