Indian almond leaves come from the Terminalia catappa tree. The leaf of this tree is especially known for its ability to act as a natural medicine and aquarium water conditioner for betta fish and shrimp tanks when the leaf has emerged in water for extended periods of time. Catappa leaves will take 3-5 days to sink, after this they will release most of their tannins and start breaking down. Once sunken, they usually last for 1-2 months in your aquarium before breaking down. The antibacterial and antifungal properties of Indian almond leaves are the number one reason why you should add them to your aquarium in the first place. Once you add a suitable amount of Indian almond leaves to your aquarium, they'll act as a natural remedy for your fish to cure any infections they might have. Most leaves last about one to two months until they break down completely. Once you start seeing holes develop in the first leaf, add a second leaf to give it time to start breaking down and releasing tannins

The most common way of using Indian almond leaves is to drop them directly into your tank. It's generally recommended that you start with one medium-sized leaf for every 10 gallons of water inside your aquarium. But before you do this, remove any activated carbon or Purigen from your filter
