  • Minnesota Midget Melon is an heirloom variety originally developed by the University of Minnesota in 1948.
  • Compact plants, which are excellent for small space or container gardens, produce fruits that grow to around 4 to 6 inches in diameter, just big enough to make a tasty little snack!
  • Deep orange flesh is sweet, succulent, and juicy.
  • Start indoors 2-4 weeks before transplanting. Sow several seeds 1/2 inch deep in individual peat pots or seed trays and use a heating mat to keep the soil at 75 degrees F or higher until germination occurs. Thin to the strongest plant after the seedlings have developed their first set of true leaves.
  • When the outdoor soil temperature has warmed to around 70 to 80 degrees F, transplant the seedlings to hills 4 to 6 feet apart with 2 to 3 plants per hill.
  • At 65 days to maturity, this is one of the earliest ripening melons on the market and is perfect for planting in regions that have shorter growing periods.
