Up for sale is a rare 1978 MSA Wiffle Ball Disc Houston Astros outfielder Cesar Cedeno. It is one disc out of an 80 card set.

Condition is "acceptable" which is judged to be very good in this case.  Please read the description very carefully.  There are some surface scratches on the front and back of the disc. The rear also features some scratches and some discoloration due to age and soiling.  There's also some miscellaneous marks and perimeter wear.

Overall, the disc is in decent shape for it's age and would make a nice addition to the collection of any Cesar Cedeno or Houston Astros fan. It would also be great for any vintage "oddball" baseball card or memorabilia collector. Please see photos for more information.

The 1978 Wiffle Ball disc cards are the standard design issued by MSA (Michael Schechter Associates) except for being smaller in diameter. They feature black and white, headshots with airbrushed cap emblems, since the photos were only licensed by the Major League Baseball Players Association, and not MLB. The right and left front has color panels with biographical information. The discs were produced as promotions and were customized with advertisements on the back.

The 80-card set was issued as single cards inserted inside the Wiffle ball box. There are six different color panels and each player only comes in one color. 21 future Hall-of-Fame inductees grace the set along with other stars of the era. Mark Fidrych may be the most unique player depicted and Ray Burris the most obscure. For some reason, Ed Kranepool shows up even though he is winding down his career in ’78.

Sold in 1978 these die cut, payer baseball discs were inserted into Regulation Baseball and Softball size Wiffle Ball Boxes. The discs feature a black and white portrait of a player on the sweet spot of a baseball design. The left & right panels were printed in one of either two shades of pink, yellow, or orange. The left panel lists the players height, Weight, and birth date, while the right lists the players place of birth, above the copyright information that reads "(C) Major League Baseball Players Assoc. 1976." Below the portrait is the player's name, position, team, and the MLBPA logo.

The back of the unnumbered baseball discs, read "WIFFLE" In red, then below in black print, "SPORTS SPECTACULAR, Collectors Series, LIMITED EDITION, MSA" with 3 stars on each side. The Discs were manufactured by Gugler Lithograph Co., and made available to Wiffle Ball Inc. through MSA - Mike Schechter Associates, Inc. In 1977 MSA issued customized baseball discs as advertising for a number of large & local companies. These "MSA Dics" were larger in size, measuring 3 3/8" in diameter. The Wiffle discs were customized to a size of 2/ 3/8," so they could fit into the boxes.
