My nursery is fully plant passported in line with the new regulations.

 

This item is two mature Venus Fly Trap (Dionaea muscipula) plants sent potted.

Read the following information carefully!

 

We are ten-time Chelsea Flower Show gold medalists, (2008, 09, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, & 19), and have been selling carnivorous plants since 1997. Personally, I have been growing these plants for nearly forty years, and am the author of the book, Carnivorous Plants, Gardening with Extraordinary Botanicals (Timber Press ISBN 9781604695793).

 

I send full instructions with the plants, but below is a precis.

 

There are a couple of golden rules when it comes to growing these plants, something that most people ignore, and then they lose them. This is why they have a reputation for being hard to grow.

 

Firstly, they need full sun, so a south facing window, greenhouse, or conservatory, is perfect, and yes, they can take the extreme heat of the summer.

 

Secondly, they need to be kept wet with rain water. They are bog plants, so you can't overwater them. Stand in at least an inch depth of water, more if you're going away.

 

Thirdly, they are North American, so hot summers, and cold winters. Between Halloween and Valentine's Day, keep them unheated in a cold greenhouse, shed window, or porch, or somewhere undercover but cold, and keep just damp, but don't allow to dry out. At this time they will withstand minus 10 degrees Celcius. If in a conservatory or greenhouse that's unheated in the winter, just leave them there, and keep wet in summer, and damp in winter. Easy peasy.

 

THESE ARE TEMPERATE, HERBACEOUS PLANTS THAT DIE BACK OVER WINTER AND LOSE SOME OF THEIR LEAVES. THEREFORE, AT THIS TIME THEY WILL HAVE LESS GROWTH THAN IN THE SUMMER MONTHS. IT'S ALSO WORTH MENTIONING THAT ONCE GROWTH RESUMES IN THE SPRING, THE PLANTS ARE NOT SUDDENLY FURNISHED WITH A FULL COMPLIMENT OF LEAVES. THESE ARE PRODUCED ALL SEASON, THROUGH UNTIL ABOUT SEPTEMBER, WHEN THEY BEGIN THEIR DORMANT PHASE. THE OLD LEAVES WILL DIE BACK AS NEW ONES ARE PRODUCED, AND INDEED, LEAVES COME TO THE END OF THEIR LIVES AND BLACKEN OFF AT ANY TIME, AND SO IF YOUR PLANT HAS A LEAF THAT DOES THIS, DON'T PANIC!

 

THESE ARE NURSERY GROWN PLANTS. THEY ARE NOT AN OFF THE SHELF ITEM, MANUFACTURED TO A PRECISE TEMPLATE, THEY ARE VARIABLE IN SHAPE, SIZE, FORM AND COLOUR.
