This listing is for a vintage book, A Kentucky Cardinal, written by James Lane Allen and published by Harper and Brothers in 1898 as one of the Harpers Little Novels. This is a hardcover book. It is signed by someone, but not the author. I was told that the previous owner believed the signature to be someone from the Harper and Brothers publishing house. I did a quick Google search and I can not conform that to be the case. 

Condition: This is a used vintage book that shows some signs of use and its age. The cover is scuffed and dirty. The frontispiece has come loose from the binding. The is a signature on the title page ,but I have no way to know who the signer was.The pages have darkened and yellowed with age.
