RARE, 1986 print from the Reed & Carnrick Orchid Series, by noted scientist and artist Dr. Margo Brinton.

"Paphiopedilum spicerianum" is a native of Assam, India and the Sonai River gorges.  Read more about this unique orchid in the "Unique among the orchids" information included in one of the photos attached to this listing.

This print is beautiful, with bold colors and striking details.  It was printed on an ivory, textured paper in 1986.  Printed into the work is Margo Brinton's signature and 1984 date.  Print size is 10 7/8" x 16 1/2".  According to the folder that will accompany the print, the limited edition, signed & numbered version of this print (in an 18" x 24" size) was available to be won as part of a contest in early 1987.  The edition size was only 250.  That's a very small quantity for a limited edition print.  I do not know how many of the prints like I am offering here were done.  I'm just supplying this information because it is printed on the folder holding the print. Please do not confuse the print offered here with a signed, limited edition print -- it is neither of those.  But I have never seen another one of these orchid prints offered online, there are none on eBay, or any of the other art websites that I am very familiar with.  I was lucky enough to find four at a recent auction.  All four will be available on eBay shortly.

I'll place the print and folder between a piece of white foam board and a cover of white card stock like paper, and mail by USPS First Class Mail inside a bubble envelope.

I'll mail same day, or next day after payment is received.

About the artist:

Dr. Margo Brinton uses watercolor to capture the brilliance and mystery of exotic orchids.  The large scale of her creations emphasizes the bold colors, delicate textures, and sensual shapes of her subjects.  A scientific background is evident in the accuracy of her observation, but it is her sensitivity and training as an artist that transform these images into portraits.  These are orchids Margo knows personally; orchids that are growing in her Malvern, Pennsylvania greenhouse.
With her Ph.D. in virology and microbiology, Margo Brinton is currently Associate Professor at Wistar Institute and University of Pennsylvania.  Her paintings have been seen in regional and national invitational shows since 1976, and hang in numerous private and corporate collections.  Her orchid portraits appeared in an exhibition at the National Arboretum in Washington, D.C. during September and October of 1986.  (Information taken from the one of the folders that the orchid prints were stored in -- current as of 1986...)
