Made in the 1930's to 1940 and of unknown origin but most likely European made, this CHARMING little novelty doll also had a dual purpose to be used as a CANDY BOX, making an ENCHANTING ACCESSORY to display with your ANTIQUE DOLLS!

This hard to find piece is among two other rare candy container boxes we will be offering and also pictured here which include an antique celluloid head baby marotte/rattle and an antique French miniature book; please note this listing is for the vintage porcelain head lady doll candy box only.

This particular piece we are offering here is a wonderful and all completely all original UNIQUE NOVELTY item, featuring a beautiful lady doll dressed in what appears to be her original PROVINCIAL ENSEMBLE, with a candy container box hidden underneath her skirts!  The outfit is made of a two piece burgundy taffeta dress with mutton sleeves that have a contrasting cream cotton top and taffeta bottom, a V-neck vest top, and a wine colored apron with hand painted white embellishments with blue satin ribbon ties!  Underneath, she wears her original cream gauze half slip which covers the white cardboard square candy box, which would have contained hidden sweets and also acts as the bottom half of the doll!  

To complete her outfit, she wears her original DOLL JEWELRY which includes a lovely bronze metal BEADED NECKLACE, and matching geometrically shaped DROP EARRINGS----you can tell there was a lot of attention to detail when making this wonderful specialty item!

The doll herself has a HAND PAINTED face made of porcelain or possibly pottery, with SIDE-GLANCING blue eyes with individually painted eyelashes, subtly blushed rosy cheeks and a sweet little red ROSEBUD MOUTH!  Her original wig is fabulous, made of deep AUBURN MOHAIR, parted in the center and with a large BRAIDED BUN in the back with many layers of coils!  Her arms are made of cloth, and she has cloth MITTEN HANDS, both made to be stationary and not move.  

The doll measures a total of 12" tall, which includes her candy box underneath that measures 2 7/8" square!  Overall, she is excellent condition and BEAUTIFULLY PRESERVED, and ready to store chocolates or other TINY TREASURES and to display in your doll or candy container collection!
