General Description:
Eucalyptus grandis. The species is native to Australia, though plantations have been established in South America and South Africa. The term 'Red Grandis' specifically refers to plantations established in South America, particularly in Uraguay and Brazil. The wood varies from light pink to pale red in colour, with contrasting pale-grey sapwood. It has a similar appearance to many of the mahogany type timbers such as Sapele and Swietenia, but of course without the environmental consequences of extracting these species. Typically the timber weighs around 600kg/m3.
Uses :
Suitable for furniture, cabinetry and joinery for interior and exterior work. The timber stains and finishes readily and is ideal for a wide variety of wood crafts and other uses.
