General Description:
Liriodendron tulipifera.  Found throughout the northern United States.  Sometimes referred to as 'Tulip Poplar' or 'Yellow Poplar' although actually unrelated to the genus Populus.  The timber is generally pale, straight grained and very stable.  It machines with ease and can be polished to a good finish.  The timber typically weighs around 450kg/m3.

Uses :
Tulipwood is easy to work and commonly used in cabinet and furniture making, as well as panelling and a wide variety of internal joinery.  It is ideal for model making, woodcarving  and general woodcrafts.  Specialized uses include snowboard cores and the cases within which Camembert cheese is sold, as well as being prized by the artists of the Renaissance as the medium on which many fine paintings (including the Mona Lisa) were painted.
