DESCRIPTION

An excellent collection of this set complete in two volumes of John Buchan's very scarce 1828 first edition Ancient Ballads and Songs of the North of Scotland. Rebound in a smart half calf binding over marbled boards and edges. 

Not seen at auction for twenty years. 

The second edition was not published until 1875 

Scottish editor Peter Buchan collected ancient Scottish ballads and songs in these two excellent volumes. With many explanatory notes by the author and a thorough introduction. 

Containing titles such as 'Sir Patrick Spens,' 'Childe Owlet,' The Courteous Knight,' 'Young Allan,' 'The Baron o' Leys,' and more. Each volume comprises over sixty titles. 

Illustrated with a frontispiece to volume one.


CONDITION

In a half calf binding over marbled boards and edges. Externally excellent with minor shelf wear and a minor rubbing to the spine and to the extremities. A minor scuffing to the rear board of volume one. Internally, firmly bound. With a minor faint scattered spotting to the first and last few leaves, and the minor odd spot to the occasional page; otherwise, the pages are generally bright and clean throughout. Illustrated with a frontispiece to the first volume.

Overall Condition: Very Good Indeed
