Description

What does air spring repair kit mean in this case?

For most air suspension struts, the car manufacturer does not provide for this
to be able to replace the air spring component separately.
So in most cases there is no separate original product.

We offer you here a still well functioning shock absorber
of the air spring strut to install a new air bellows.
! Provided the shock absorber does not leak oil!

To ensure that you can replace this air spring component smoothly and successfully, here are a few general tips:

1. The air spring portion must first be depressurized.

2. You must be aware that it is not easy to open the upper nut without further ado,
because the rod of the shock absorber rotates.
And if there is also an internal Allen key on the shock absorber rod,
However, you often need a ratchet with a corresponding socket to get to the nut.
Unfortunately, you will then not be able to attach the Allen key.
At this point, only socket wrenches for repairing lambda sensors can help you.

3. Take pictures of which parts are removed and in which order.

4. Place all parts removed from the shock absorber,
such as air spring bodies, sealing rings, discs, etc. separately and clearly arranged on the workplace.
This is for direct comparison purposes to see whether you have installed everything new in the correct order.

5. Please note that all sealing rings must be moistened with grease or silicone spray before installation.

6. Once you have pulled the air spring part over the shock absorber
and have also secured it accordingly with the nut, it is now time to pre-fill it with compressed air:
A. There are a few struts that have a retaining pin on the shock absorber or on the air spring,
so that you can lock the air spring as far down as possible.
This is to ensure that the lower part of the air spring also closes with the lower sealing ring,
when there is no compressed air in the bellows yet.
B. In most cases, you will need to do the following:
- Place the unfilled shock absorber on the ground or attach it to a vice while standing.
- One person then pulls and holds the lower part of the air spring as far down as possible,
so that the sealing ring(s) are covered.
- At the same time, the other person fills the air bellows with only a little pressure.
The air spring just has to stay in position and be tight.

Too much compressed air can cause the shock absorber to be too long for installation.
If the shock absorber is still too short when installing, simply add some compressed air.

Danger:
-Never put the vehicle down with empty air springs!
-Check the air suspension system for leaks.

After the repair, make sure that the system is absolutely leak-proof.
Park the vehicle and wait for the system to automatically adjust (if your vehicle has this function).
Measure all air-supported heights (floor to bottom edge of fender) precisely and note the distances.
Compare the distances with the values the next day.
Even a small deviation in the distances will cause damage to the compressor and the valves in the long term.
