Tutankhamun’s mask is the death mask of Pharaoh Tutankhamun of the Eighteenth Dynasty of Ancient Egypt (ruled between the years 1332-1323 BC). It was discovered by Howard Carter in 1925 in Cemetery 62 and is now housed in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. The mask is one of the most famous works of art in the world.

According to the Egyptologist Nicholas Reeves, the mask “is not only the perfect image of Tutankhamun’s tomb, but perhaps the most famous item around ancient Egypt itself.” Since 2001, research has indicated that it may have been originally intended for Queen Neverviruatine; Since its royal name (Ankhkheperure) is found in a cartouche partially erased inside the mask.
