FROM THE PREFACE:

The title of our book, Tempting Traditions,  takes us back to 1836
when the first people who settled in this county were tempted
by the fertile soil, good climate and available lands.  Our "Fannin
County Woman," a special narrative at the beginning of each
chapter, is an imaginary character who represents the woman
of her day.  She lived, worked, loved and died in this colorful
part of Texas.  She was the pioneer who helped
 establish the state.

Enjoy with us some of our "old recipes" handed down from
one generation to the next.  Imagine with us the trials of cooking
on the wood-burning stove, filling the cellar with food from
the orchard and garden, the aroma of bread-baking days, the
process of curing hams and bacon and sausage making, the
Sunday dinner around the large family table and some of
the many traditions that are pleasant to remember.

With this book we share with you a touch of our history
and a taste of our dining pleasure.

Tempting Traditions is a blending of time and taste.

We hope to entice you with our touch of history and tempt
you to try our recipe for traditional Texas fare.
