Inspired by the classic Pineapple hand grenade design, this pen makes a great gift for any military aficionado. The form derives from the 48-panel serrated cast-iron shell typical of this classic grenade. In contrast to the heavy iron-structure of the real grenade; the pen body is precisely CNC machined from solid Aluminum. This keeps your pen lightweight (2.2oz) and easy to use while maintaining the round bulky look and feel of its actual grenade inspiration. What looks like a pen clip at the top of the pen actually represents the Grenade safety lever and works to retract the refill rather than act as a working pen clip. That safety lever connects to the top of the pen, or Lug and Fuze, with an authentic looking safety pin and pull ring. To extend the refill just click the plunger like a typical click pen. This pushes out the safety lever clip. To retract, pull the safety lever and watch the pen top explode out of the Lug and Fuze pen end. Features a Parker style refill for a smooth writing performance.

Buckeye Burl (Aesculus californica) is an unusual species. Colors range from blue-black to golden whites with a nice mixture in between. Buckeye is a very difficult and expensive wood to mill. Some of the obstacles faced when milling are rocks, sand, dirt, bullets, and rattle snakes. Yes, rattle snakes inside the voids in the burl!  Saleable Buckeye will commonly have bark incursions, live edges, and voids in burl eyes. These are commonly filled with crushed minerals or left as voids to add natural beauty in finished projects.

As a world-renowned artisan, I was able to form this fine writing instrument through a painstaking process that involved several hours and stages in order to present a finely polished work of art. The blank was measured and drilled before inserting a brass tube. It was then trued on each end before being placed on my Rikon midi-lathe for the shaping using various chisels. When the desired shape was achieved, I then took it through a multi-stage sanding process finishing with nine steps of micro-mesh, followed by a multi-step protective polishing with Cyanoacrylate, followed up with three coats of carnauba wax, resulting in a durable glass like finish.
