60 Years Ago,  John Glenn became the first American to orbit the Earth.  For the first time in postal history, the USPS surprised the public with the release of a secret stamp celebrating John Glenn's successful mission. 
The 4 Cent Project Mercury postage stamp was revealed and immediately put on sale within an hour of John Glenn's return to earth on February 20, 1962.
This auction is for 6 uncirculated postage stamps on blank envelopes along with one additional commemorative envelope containing John Glenn's image along with artwork of the Atlas-Mercury Rocket at lift off.

Envelopes do show their age with slight yellowing from age and the adhesive is long since dried up.  The envelope with artwork contains the address of the original recipient.  This is an amazing lot and a fantastic addition to any vintage space collection.
