Niles Wall Mount Infrared Sensor

Model-WS100R

The WS100R infrared (IR) sensor helps enable easy control of your A/V system from a secondary listening room, using either your system's regular remote control or a universal remote. The sensor incorporates newly developed Niles technology that allows it to operate in a wide range of environments — near plasma TVs, in indirect sunlight, or under fluorescent lights. It also includes a white Decora faceplate for seamless wall-mounting.

A complete IR repeater system, which also includes an IR system hub and one or more IR flashers, not only gives you A/V system control from multiple rooms, but also lets you place your components out of sight — in a cabinet or closet, for example.

IR System Overview:  An infrared (IR) extender system enables you to control your IR remote controlled A/V equipment from a remote location. This enables you to place your A/V components out of sight (behind cabinet doors, in the rear of a room, or in a different room) and still conveniently control your equipment.

IR System Components: The WS100R Wall-mount Infrared Sensor is one of three elements that make up an infrared extender system:

IR Main System Unit (such as MSU140, MSU250 or MSU480): The IR Main System Unit provides a connection hub for IR sensors and/or keypads and IR flashers and is generally located near the A/V components. The Main System Unit, which is the "heart" of an IR extender system, has LED indicators to monitor the IR extender system.

IR Flashers (sold separately): IR Flashers re-transmit the infrared signals from the IR Main System Unit to your A/V components. Flashers are the "voice" of an IR extender system that "speaks" to your components.

Universal Compatibility: When used in a complete system, this IR sensor is compatible with virtually all brands of A/V equipment and remote controls (using carrier frequencies between 26 and 105 kHz).

LED Indicator: This IR sensor features a bi-color LED which is useful when testing or troubleshooting the IR System. The LED should light solid green when power status is detected and flashes blue to confirm the reception of an infrared remote command.

Interference Resistance: The WS100R is resistant to CFL interference created by fluorescent lighting. This gives you more installation flexibility into areas with fluorescent lighting.

IR Receiving Range: Tests with various manufacturers' remote controls show that the operating range can vary from 18 to 30 feet (depending upon the strength of your handheld remote). The IR pickup angle is 30° off-axis (horizontal and vertical) at 18 feet.

Decora Style: This WS100R is a Decora-style wall mount IR sensor and includes a removable white Decora insert and a white Decora faceplate.

Mounting: The WS100R is designed to be mounted in a single-gang electrical box that is within "line of sight" from most areas of the room. The sensor has a mounting depth of 1-1/4". Note: As with any type of IR sensor, avoid locating the WS100R where it will be exposed to direct sunlight. It should not be installed into electrical boxes with 110-volt devices or near any potential sources of electrical or optical noise, such as light dimmers, florescent lighting fixtures, low-voltage lights, and neon lights.

Wiring: The WS100R connects to the Niles infrared main systems unit (or IRH610 sensor expansion hub) with an individual "home run" of Category 5 ("Cat 5") cable. Most states and municipalities usually require the wire to have a specific "CL" fire rating. Please consult your local building inspection department for requirements in your area.
