The Strangers were 1 of the great touring bands in all of country music. Formed in 1966 as the backup band for singer/songwriter Merle Haggard, they also co-wrote many of his songs (including the #1 singles Okie From Muskogee, & I Always Get Lucky with You). From ‘69 to ‘73 they released several records & had a Top 10 hit with single Street Singer on the USA Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart (which also received a Grammy Award nomination). They were 1 of the most musically versatile, talented recording & show bands in America. Between ‘69 & ‘87, The Strangers were voted Band of the Year by the Academy of Country Music 8 times - more than any other band in history!
