As Carp anglers ourselves we've been tying carp rigs for over 10 years and decided to utilise that experience by creating Ready Tied Carp Rigs for other anglers on a Full Time basis.

The illusion D Rig is new to our range and a rig that will definitely catch you more carp. The hooklink will be available in Clear, Camo Green and Camo Fleck to give you different options and possibilities when on the bank.  The clear hooklink will be practically invisible on most lakebeds and especially gin clear waters.  The camo hooklinks will blend in more so with silty and weedy waters but will work perfectly with all lakebeds. A perfect rig to keep in your rigsafe along with the similar IQ2 D Rig.

The stiffness of the hooklink makes this rig anti tangle and totally eliminates tangles so you can be confident that your rig and hookbait is presented perfectly.

The rig is extremely difficult to eject once the carp has taken your hookbait which is one of the main characteristics you want in any rig.

The rig is best used with a helicopter setup as it will always land on top of any debris and present your hookbait and even when smaller fish are disturbing the area around the hook it will reset itself in preparation for a greedy carp.

I personally use banoffee or live system wafters with this rig and have complete confidence in them but any wafter or balanced hookbait will be more than sufficient.

As this rig is so versatile it can be used all year round and cast onto most lakebeds with excellent presentation. (If you want to use it amongst weed we recommend using a Heli Leader setup so the bait will have the chance to settle over any weed). As far as additional hookbaits go, you can use fake baits such as corn, maize, tigernuts etc or a wafter straight out of the tub.  If you want to go even further you can drill out boilies, tigernuts etc and insert some cork to create your own unique hookbaits.

This particular rig has been used to great effect by Tom Maker and Darrell Peck plus many others where countless carp have been caught.

To get the best performance from the illusion D Rig you should use a wafter and ensure that the hook is laying flat on the lakebed with the bait hovering above masking the hook.


Rig breakdown:

This particular rig comes with either a Curved or Wide Gape Hook pattern:-

Curve Shank - The curve of the shank leaves the hook sitting at an aggressive angle and primed to prick the bottom lip.

Wide Gape - The wider gape, in-turned eye and beaked point makes this the perfect hook for this rig.

The hooks are Teflon coated and anti glare. Available in sizes 4 and 6 in either Micro Barb or Barbless (we do not crush barbs or modify in any way)

The Boom section is made with a stiffer material to kick the bait away from the lead and also give excellent anti tangle and reset properties. The rig mechanics then allow the hook to flip and take hold very quickly once tightened to the lead.
We have a few different colours available for this rig from Clear, Camo Green and Camo Fleck. As the hooklink is memory free you don't need steam to straighten it out if it gets kinked after landing a fish. Simply pull on each end with a rig puller tool a few times and it will straighten in seconds. Different lengths of the hooklink are available.

For attaching your hookbait there are various bait attachment options available such as metal bait screws, rig rings, micro swivels etc which allow you to mount the bait in your preferred method.

There are various shrink tubing kicker colours available on request. The kicker colour can either be chosen to blend in with the lakebed substrate or to stand out and entice quicker bites as proven on the Korda Underwater series. The kicker also enables the hook to flip even quicker but by no means is it really necessary on this rig.

For terminating the rig we add a loop which can then be attached to quick change swivels (lead clip or helicopter setups)

The rig is terminated with a figure of 8 loop knot which is solid and very neat.

TIPS:-

If you're using a wafter it's always easier to use a bigger hookbait and then trim it with scissors until you get the correct buoyancy so the hook is laying flat and the hookbait is wafting above it and masking the hook from view. The buoyancy of a wafter will vary depending on the size and brand and size so it's always worth testing your rig in the margin or a tub before casting.
