Here is an extremely rare and sought after extra large Parian portrait bust of Queen Victoria (1819-1901), issued to commemorate her Golden Jubilee in 1887 by Robinson and Leadbeater , measuring 21.5” inches tall raised on wasted socle with original bolt fastener, with extremely fine detail. This bust celebrated the queen’s 50 year reign as monarch of Great Britain and Ireland and Empress of India and was issued in a limited edition in this large size. Also noteworthy is the abundance of applied details during second firings of the bust to attach earrings and royal crown. perhaps one of Germanys most regarded and controversial composers of all time, unmarked but manufactured by the British firm Robinson & Leadbeater, in very fine condition , measuring 23” tall. 14” wide, raised on waisted socle with original brass bolt fastener.. The reverse will show the year of issue, 1887, as well as the manufacturer R & L, and the modeling artist, R. J. Morris. This is a very large and extremely fine addition to any serious parian collection and the very last word in Victoriana. It should be noted that bust does have a some notable defects, not detracting from appearance. First , this is an early example that was issued with the queen’s earrings, with her right earring lost as pictured. Later examples were cast without these very delicate appendages, as pictured in much smaller 12” examples shown in The Parian Phenomenon, page 248 figure 839. There is also damage to the crown, with the cross having an old glue repair on top , a missing tip of the diadem and a glue repair to another tip, all as pictured. Lastly, the reverse photo shows a stable firing flaw or tight hairline extending about 8”, not visible without close inspection. as pictured. Otherwise in good condition with the typical age associated light soiling, dust, etc. This bust weighs about 15 pounds unpacked and is a time consuming shipping project so local pickup is much preferred.
