Bell Biv DeVoe is an American group formed by Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins & Ronnie DeVoe of the group New Edition. In '90 they became a trio & released debut album Poison ('90), credited as pioneering the "new jack swing" sound of the early '90s, combining hip-hop, funk, soul & pop music. This fusion exposed them to a fan base which preferred a harder edged sound. Poison reached #1 on the USA Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Chart with title track & Do Me singles both hitting #3 on the Hot 100 Chart & received the Best R&B/Urban Contemporary Album of the Year award at the ’91 Soul Train Music Awards & Favorite Soul/R&B Band/Duo/Group at the '92 American Music Awards. They released Hootie Mack in '93 & the more hardcore rap/R&B influenced BBD in 2001. Run (their 1^st single in 15 years) was released from album Three Stripes (2017). Bell Biv Devoe continues to perform together & also participate in New Edition reunions & tours.
