Francois Boucher's center scene on this Portrait Bowl is in the Rococo style. The bowl is made of White Porcelain with a Grass Green Inner Rim. The Rim is enhanced with Gold Gilt Designs and a Gold Band.
The Edge of the Bowl is unique. There are small indents, not quite scallops around the bowl which lead to 3 larger cut-outs. This Edge leading into the Rim is embossed.
Dimensions: 10 1/2" in diameter x 2 5/8" Tall.
Scene signed by Francois Boucher who according to Wikipedia was (born 29 September 1703 – 30 May 1770) a French painter, draughtsman and etcher, who worked in the Rocco style. Boucher is known for his idyllic and voluptuous paintings on classical themes, decorative allegories, and pastoral scenes. He was perhaps the most celebrated painter and decorative artist of the 18th century. His scene in the center of the bowl is illustrative of his work.
Please see the attached pictures and item specifications. There are some areas on the rim that have lost their green glaze and the white porcelain is showing through. Some of the Gold Gilt Band and Rim designs have faded over time and through use.
I have attempted to date the bowl to no avail. Maker's mark is not visible.
The unusual shape and the scene with it's attrubation to BOUCHER makes this a Bowl to keep and display.
