DESCRIPTION
In a contemporary binding, retaining the original endpapers.
With the bookplate of one Mark Dineley to the front pastedown. Possibly the same Dineley of Ferne House, Berwick St John. Contemporary owner's inscription to the title page.
Bound without the errata and the folding plate. Facsimile of folding plate is loosely inserted.
Retaining the folding leaf rules scheme of laws for the management of a School of Arms and without folding plate at page 232.
A scarce work, written by an authority on fencing, Sir William Hope. Hope is notable for his criticism of the French Small-Sword system he personally trained in. He felt that the true Art of Defence lay in the English back-sword method. This work explains his theories, and is his most famous.
With the dedication to the Earl of Marischal, William Keith.
