Maria Hack (1777-1844) was an educational writer. Maria Hack's youngest brother, Bernard Barton (1784–1849), the friend of Charles Lamb and a minor poet, recalled that in his youth his sister had been ‘a sort of oracle to me’. Her enthusiasm for the education of children extended beyond her own family: in 1812 she published First Lessons in English Grammar, and a variety of other educational works for children followed. She also wrote works on theology.

This volume contains three lectures on: Discovery and Manufacture of Glass Lenses and Mirrors The Structure of the Eye
